Following the implementation of ICAO’s Global Reporting Format (GRF) and the FAA’s Runway Surface Condition Description (RSCD) through the Takeoff and Landing Performance Assessment (TALPA) initiative, flight crews have been encountering standardized takeoff runway surface condition descriptors that are unaddressed in our flight manuals. These descriptors are critical for accurate takeoff performance calculations on contaminated runways.

To ensure clarity, we have released updated procedures in the Flight Operations Notification Manual (FONM). These updates provide guidance on interpreting GRF surface descriptors for takeoff performance calculations on Bombardier Challenger 300/350/604/605/650 and Global series aircraft, with an emphasis on aligning GRF terminology with existing Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) procedures.

Please refer to your Flight Operations Notification Manual,– Other Procedures section, to view the FON associated with your aircraft:

  • OTHER-003-NC, CH604

  • OTHER-003-NC, CH605

  • OTHER-003-NC, CH650

The Cold Weather Operations Manual has also been updated to reflect the procedures contained in the FONs listed above.

Additionally, QRH1 manuals for each respective platform will incorporate the content of the associated FON in their next or subsequent publication cycle.
