Why “Reason for Removal” Matters When Ordering Parts

By Kirandeep Sandhu

In aircraft maintenance, every component removed from an aircraft has a story—and documenting that story is essential.

At Bombardier, accurate “Reason for Removal” reporting helps us process component-level transactions efficiently, whether it’s for a routine replacement or for an unexpected failure, the details surrounding that removal are critical—not just for troubleshooting, but for determining coverage and appropriate payer responsibilities such as Warranty or Smart Services.

When a removed part arrives at a component repair provider without a clear failure description, the repair facilities are forced to make assumptions about where to start and what to fix.

That often leads to non‑warranty billing or no fault found (NFF) results until further proof is provided.

These gaps don’t just slow things down—they disrupt reliability tracking, weaken traceability, and can impact long‑term fleet performance.

Clearly detailed removal notes reduce uncertainty and disputes, improves communication, helps to maintain the stocking of highest quality rotable components on the market and ensures that repairs and claims are handled accurately.

Thank you for supporting this important initiative and helping maintain the highest standards of airworthiness and reliability.
