2025 Safety Standdown: Attendees urged to “Own the Outcome” at aviation safety event

Bombardier’s 29th Safety Standdown concluded on Nov. 13 in Wichita, Kansas—and what a huge success it was!

The annual event calls upon industry professionals to improve aviation safety, no matter which aircraft they fly. This year, the Safety Standdown theme encouraged everyone to “Own the Outcome” of their actions on the job. Regardless of what role they play in the aviation chain, Safety Standdown reminded everyone to take responsibility for every decision, procedure and moment that impacts aviation safety.

Presenters shared important concepts at the three-day gathering, including performance under pressure, team dynamics, workplace culture and collaboration, and much more.

At the signature banquet and award ceremony, Paul “BJ” Ransbury was presented with Bombardier’s prestigious 2025 Safety Standdown Award. The annual recognition goes to an aviation professional who has shown exemplary dedication to improving industry safety through the three key Safety Standdown principles of “Learn, Apply, Share.”

Ransbury, CEO of Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) since 2005, has been a tireless advocate of Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT) to combat aviation’s leading cause of fatalities, Loss of Control—Inflight (LOC-I). Building on his background as a Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot, airline pilot, instructor across multiple platforms, and eight-time Master Certified Flight Instructor, Ransbury set the benchmark in UPRT with the introduction of EPIC-S2, the Every Pilot In Control Solution Standard—an evidence-based and scalable method of training delivery. He served as Chair of the NBAA Safety Committee and is currently president of the Upset Prevention and Recovery Training Association International, working with partners from around the world to improve aviation safety.

Next year’s 30th annual Safety Standdown will continue to reinforce the key principles of “Learn, Apply, Share,” reminding aviation professionals to learn new skills, apply them, and share their knowledge to make an impact as a role model.
