A call for improved data collaboration

Effectivity: All Aircraft Series

ATA: All Aircraft Series

In today’s rapidly advancing industry, the role of data has never been more useful. Aircraft operators possess a wealth of valuable information generated by their fleets, ranging from maintenance records and flight data to operational insights and real-time performance metrics.  Yet, despite its potential, this data can remain underutilized or siloed within individual organizations.

One of the more crucial elements of data collaboration is the reporting of accurate metrics related to the performance and reliability of parts and systems. From a manufacturer standpoint, there is an increasing need for aircraft operators to consider the value of sharing their data. By doing so, they can contribute to more robust reporting metrics.

Accurate reporting of various metrics is more than just a routine task. It can have implications on many outcomes pertaining to aircraft safety, operational efficiency, cost control, and customer satisfaction. However, as an aircraft fleet gets older, we tend to lose a bit of visibility on the data. For this reason, we would like to remind operators of options to share data.

Operators can submit data to Bombardier though our Electronic Data Standard Exchange (EDSE). It is acknowledged that this document is quite large and can be overwhelming to provide the data outlined. The EDSE can be viewed as a standard that operators can aim toward. Implementation will be flexible, and Bombardier will accept as much or as little data that can be supplied (Business Aircraft EDSE-BBA-SIL-001-001 V2023-01).

To more closely monitor the downtime of our aircraft, Bombardier has also implemented a data exchange initiative. In exchange for sharing the monthly Out of Service (OOS) data, Bombardier will provide the operator with up to two standard aircraft reliability reports per year, free of charge (Availability Forms).

For more details about these data exchange options and to begin sharing data, please contact the Bombardier Maintenance Data Analysis group at fracas_usa@aero.bombardier.com or fracas.montreal@aero.bombardier.com.
