Protecting your aircraft interior: The Cabin Interior Grooming Guide is your first reference

By: François SavardMaintaining the appearance and condition of an aircraft cabin is essential to preserving the customer experience, protecting asset value and avoiding unnecessary repair costs. Bombardier has recently observed an increase in interior damage caused by the use of non-approved cleaning products, equipment and techniques.
To ensure proper care of cabin interiors, all flight attendants, flight crews, groomers, maintenance technicians and service providers should refer to the Cabin Interior Grooming Guide (CIGG). The CIGG identifies the approved cleaning products, methods and equipment for each cabin material and surface.
Several recurring issues have been traced to the use of products and equipment that are not approved in the CIGG:
Alcohol-based products, including disinfectant wipes and sprays, should not be used on leather passenger seats. Alcohol can remove leather’s protective topcoat, resulting in stickiness, discoloration, fading and premature wear.
Ammonia-based or chlorinated cleaners should never be used on plated surfaces such as decorative trims and faucets. In addition, cleaning residue and spray droplets should be removed immediately to prevent tarnishing, staining and, in some cases, corrosion.
Cyclonic and beater bar vacuums are not suitable for carpets containing silk fibers. Their use can cause fiber pulls, distortion and color fading.
Acidic products such as lemon and vinegar or solvents could damage natural stone.
Only use the recommended products depending on your wood and veneer surface finish.
Water must not be used to clean fire-treated fabrics
Following the CIGG is the best way to preserve the factory finish of the cabin, prevent costly non-warrantable damage and protect the long-term value of the aircraft. Always consult the guide before cleaning any cabin surface to confirm the approved products, techniques and equipment.
To help preserve the appearance of plated surfaces, we recommend removing any grease residue and wiping away water droplets from sinks and faucets after each flight.
