Understanding Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs)
Effectivity: All Challenger and Global
By: Scott Wight, Director of Technical PublicationsThere are more than 5,000 CMMs associated with Bombardier aircraft. While all provide component maintenance information, there are important differences in how they are organized, delivered, and updated. The following overview explains the three CMM categories and their associated revision services.
1. Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM Part 1)
These are CMMs referenced in Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) manuals. They are grouped in the Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) which form part of the maintenance manual library in SmartPubs/Nivomax.
2. Component Maintenance Manuals Part 2
These CMMs are not referenced in ICA manuals. They are grouped in a separate standalone collection in SmartPubs/Nivomax for each aircraft model or family of aircraft (Ex: Global Series CMM).
3. Completions CMMs
These CMMs support aircraft completions and are included within the Completions library for each aircraft upon new aircraft delivery. Each aircraft Completions library is in SmartPubs/Nivomax.
Revision Services
Revision services are available for:
CMM Part 1 publications (provided through the Maintenance Manual revision service)
CMM Part 2 publications
Revision services are not available for Completions Manuals or Completions CMMs.
Customers who require updated Completions CMMs may request them on an ad hoc, fee-based basis by contacting Technical Publications.
Coming Soon: CMM Status Application
Technical Publications is developing a new CMM Status Application, which is planned to be available in Q3 2027 through www.my.bombardier.com.
The application will enable customers to verify the latest revision level of any CMM as known by Bombardier. This capability will be particularly valuable because a CMM revision status update may be issued before the corresponding manual revision is distributed through the normal publication release cycle.
It is Important to note that Bombardier does not receive real-time revision status updates from all our vendors. Revision information is obtained directly from vendors or through their respective websites and is typically refreshed every six months. As a result, the revision status displayed in the application reflects the latest information available to Bombardier at the time of the most recent update and may not always reflect the vendor’s current revision status.
The CMM Status Application will provide customers with a single location to quickly verify CMM revision status across Bombardier fleets, helping reduce the time and effort required to manage technical publication currency.
