New members join Safety Standdown Advisory Council

The Bombardier Safety Standdown team is welcoming two new members to the 2026 Advisory Council: Kim Benza and Paul “BJ” Ransbury.

Kim Benza is currently a Senior Aircraft Captain and Flight Safety Manager at S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. Her flying career has taken her to 50 countries and every continent except Antarctica. As SCJ’s Flight Safety Manager, Benza is responsible for holding company safety meetings, managing Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) data, facilitating operational audits, and participating in the Midwest Safety Roundtable (MSR). She holds numerous industry certifications, including NBAA Certified Aviation Manager and NBAA Safety Manager. Benza has also worked as a pilot in a Part 135 flight department and as a flight instructor.

Paul “BJ” Ransbury has led Aviation Performance Solutions since 2005, advocating for Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT) to counter aviation’s leading cause of fatalities, Loss of Control In-Flight (LOC-I). With experience as a Royal Canadian Air Force fighter pilot and airline pilot, Ransbury is an eight-time Master Certified Flight Instructor. He served as chairman of the NBAA Safety Committee and volunteers as president of the Upset Prevention and Recovery Training Association International. In 2025, Ransbury was presented with the Bombardier Safety Standdown Award for sustained volunteer leadership in aviation safety and for his continuing advocacy for LOC-I mitigation.

The 2026 Advisory Council Chair is Erika Armstrong, a council member since 2024. Our Vice Chair is Timothy Wade, a council member since 2025.
